Chip & PIN
To make it harder for fraudsters, you now have to use your PIN when you pay with your Chip & PIN cards.
So if you have a Chip & PIN card but are not yet using your PIN, you should:
- Contact us if you don't know your PIN.
- Change your PIN at a Barclays cash machine to a more memorable one if you're having trouble remembering it.
- Contact us if you've locked the PIN on your card. If your card is locked you might not be able to use it.
- Contact us if you can't use a PIN.
You will only be able to sign if your debit or credit card or the store has yet to be upgraded to Chip & PIN or you've been issued a 'chip and signature' card. The card terminal in-store will recognise whether you have the old or new-style Chip card.
Chip & PIN has been introduced to help protect you from card fraud. You have to enter a PIN into keypads at the checkout - just as you would at a cash machine - instead of signing to authorise the transaction.
