e-savings Reward FAQs

What is the e-savings Reward account?

  • e-savings Reward is a savings account that's available exclusively online. The account offers interest at a variable rate on your savings, a £1 minimum balance, instant transfers between your Barclays accounts and day and night access to your savings. Interest is paid monthly and a lower rate is paid for months in which a withdrawal is made.

How do I open an e-savings Reward account?

  • Your new e-savings Reward account can be opened through Online Banking by selecting Savings from the menu and the e-savings Reward link. It can be opened in a few clicks.

How do I transfer money into the account?

  • As e-savings Reward is an Internet-only account, all transfers must be electronic. Within Online Banking you can transfer up to £250,000 per transaction from your Barclays accounts into the account from the moment your new e-savings Reward account is opened (subject to maximum account balance of £2 million). To do this, use the 'Transfer Money' facility in Online Banking. To make regular transfers into your savings account, set up a standing order from your current account using 'Set Up Standing Order' from the menu of your homepage. You can make one-off or regular payments from any other account. Just set up a standing order from that account to the sort code and account number of your e-savings Reward account.

How do I transfer money out of the account?

  • Up to £250,000 per transaction can be transferred instantly from your e-savings Reward account into your Barclays current account using 'Transfer Money' in Online Banking. You can then withdraw or transfer your money in the usual way from your current account (subject to Online Banking transfer limits).
  • In circumstances where you don’t hold a Barclays current account, you can transfer funds to your account held with another bank, subject to an overall daily payment limit of £10,000.

Can I pay cash into my account?

  • No - as the account is Internet-only, the following payments are the only ones that will be accepted into your e-savings Reward account:
    - Regular or one-off transfers through Online Banking from your Barclays accounts.
    - Regular or one-off payments from any other bank account (ie an electronic transfer or a standing order). To do this, arrange for a transfer or standing order from your other account to your e-savings Reward account.

Can I operate my account through my branch?

  • No - as the account is Internet-only, your branch will not have access to your e-savings Reward account. It can be accessed through Online Banking day and night, seven days a week. Where you have a cash card you may withdraw up to £300 per day from Barclays cash machines.

Will I receive a statement from you?

  • You can view your e-savings Reward account day and night, seven days a week through Online Banking so there's no need for a monthly statement. For your records, we will post you a statement detailing the entries on your e-savings Reward account once a year.

What are the interest rates on the account?

  • The interest rates for the e-savings Reward account can be viewed by selecting 'Interest rates' on the e-savings Reward overview screen.

How and when is my interest calculated and paid?

  • Interest is calculated on the daily balance of the account and will be paid into your e-savings Reward account on the first working day each month.

What is the AER - Annual Equivalent Rate?

  • The AER illustrates what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded once each year.

How do I close my e-savings Reward account?

  • If you would like to close your e-savings Reward account, call the Online Banking Helpdesk on 0845 600 2323 (from outside the UK dial +44 2476 842063)**.

What do I need to do if I want to find out more information?

  • Call the Online Banking Helpdesk on 0845 600 2323 (from outside the UK dial +44 2476 842063)**.

Why is the sort code different to my other products with Barclays?

  • The sort code of your other Barclays accounts refers to your normal account holding branch. Unlike your other accounts, the e-savings Reward account is looked after by a centralised area that specialises in Online Banking. The sort code for your e-savings Reward account refers to that central area.
