Base rate help for our savers and mortgage borrowers
 

The change in the Bank of England base rate on 5 March 2009 by 0.5%, to a historic low of 0.5%, leaves many of our customers asking 'how does this affect me?'

Here at Barclays, we will protect all of our UK personal savings customers from the recent fall in the Bank of England base rate by holding savings rates unchanged. At the same time, many of our mortgage customers will benefit from the reduction in the base rate. 

We recognise the difficult position many customers are in at this time of financial change - while mortgage holders are pleased to see a historically-low base rate, savers are suffering and it is important that we try and balance your needs.

Some more information about mortgages

From Wednesday 1 April 2009, all customers on Woolwich tracker mortgages will benefit as the Barclays Bank Base Rate reduces by 0.5% to 0.5% - directly in line with the Bank of England base rate. New tracker customers will see the revised rates from Friday 6 March 2009. 

New and existing savings accounts

We continue to develop new accounts for customers and we have recently launched our new savings range, which includes a new, very competitive Golden ISA.
