Standing order guide
How to set up a standing order in Online Banking
It's easy to set up a standing order in Online Banking. If you're using PINsentry to set up standing orders, see our PINsentry site for help. Otherwise follow this step-by-step guide to making regular payments (this doesn't apply to setting up regular transfers between your own Barclays accounts, although you can do this online too).
-
Choose the Set up standing order link in the navigation on At a Glance.
-
On the Standing Order overview page, select the option to set up a regular payment.
-
On Step 1, select the current account you want to make the payment from in the dropdown box. Decide the type of payment you want to make from the three options.
-
In Step 2, give us the payment details. How you do this varies:
a. If you've chosen to pay someone whose details you've previously saved, select them from the dropdown menu.
b. If you're paying someone you've paid before but with a new reference, select them from the dropdown menu and type the reference along with the other payment details. The reference could be your customer account or credit card number.
c. If you're paying someone new, either search for the company's account details or type them directly if you know them. If you choose this option, you will need to upgrade to PINsentry.
-
Also on Step 2, tell us when you want the payments to start, how much you want to pay and how often you want the payment made (eg choose 'Monthly' to make a payment on a specific date each month or 'Specific day monthly' if you want to specify a payment on, say, the last Friday of the month). You can tell us when to stop paying the standing order or opt for the 'Until further notice' option from the dropdown menu. You can also choose to make an initial and/or final payment on this screen in addition to setting up the regular payment. If you don't want to do this, leave the boxes blank.
-
Check the details you've given us on step 3. If any are wrong, use the Change buttons. If they're correct, you MUST select the 'next' button.
-
Step 4 confirms that your standing order has been set up.
To amend or cancel your standing order, go to the Change Payments screens - the link is in the menu on your At a Glance page.
You need to make sure that you have enough cleared funds in your account on the previous working day or your standing order will not be paid.
Payments take at least three working days except those you make to Barclaycard or another Barclays account. These will happen the same day if you make them before 5pm on a working day or the next working day if you make them after 5pm.
