Help for Woolwich customers

So you've joined Barclays after moving to us from Woolwich and things look a little different, don't they? Not to worry. This page is designed to give you information on the differences between Woolwich internet banking and Barclays Online Banking.

We've broken down the differences into sections you should be familiar with. If you can't find what you're looking for, try searching this page for a keyword using the 'Find' option from the 'Edit' menu at the top of this browser window.

Account summary The summary of your accounts can be found on the 'At a Glance' page.
Joint and sole accounts In the past, joint account holders could see all the accounts held in either parties' names, even if those accounts were in a sole name. Now sole accounts will only be shown to the person named on the account. Joint accounts will be visible to both account holders.
Printing There are no print buttons anywhere in Barclays Online Banking. If you wish to print any of your statements, use the 'Print' option under the 'File' menu at the top of the browser. This applies to all the screens within the Online Bank.
Saving pot names Although new accounts have been set up for each of your savings pots we've given them the same names as your previous account to help you identify them.
Closed accounts Barclays Online Banking will not show you any details of closed accounts.
Your accounts

The following groups of products will not be shown in Barclays Online Banking

  • Barclaycard credit cards - online account management is available instead through the Barclaycard site.
  • Openplan Select & Openplan Protect.
  • Investments (other than ISAs).

If you hold a mortgage with Woolwich this will only be displayed if you have either an Offset mortgage or had sweeping/savings pots with Woolwich.

ISAs will be shown but you will not be able to transfer money to or from the account online.

Available balance Called 'Current balance'.
Individual account summary This is not available in Barclays Online Banking.

Viewing your statement By default you will see the last seven days worth of transactions on your statement. If you want to change how you view your statement, go to the 'Customise my online account settings' link in the menu of your homepage (At a Glance).
Statement history Because your Barclays accounts are new accounts to start with there won't be any items to show on your statement. This will be built up as the account is used. Barclays Online Banking will only hold information for the last six weeks or approximatley the last 60 transactions, whichever is reached first, if you receive monthly statements. If you have a query from before your account was transferred, please contact us.
Filtering your statement Barclays Online Banking will allow you to filter your statement so that it shows only debits or only credits to the account. This can be done by using the 'Detailed Search' option from the statement screen.
Printing statements There are no print buttons anywhere in Barclays Online Banking. If you wish to print out any of your statements, use the 'Print' option under the 'File' menu at the top of the browser. This applies to all the screens within the Online Bank.
Future-dated payments Unlike Woolwich internet banking, you will only be able to see future-dated payments by using the 'Change payments' or 'Change transfers' functions – accessed from the menu of your homepage. You don’t have to change any payments to view this list though.

Paying a bill To save time we've transferred over all your current bill payment mandates. We've prepared a guide to take you through the process of making a payment.
Payment limits

As part of our continuing programme to protect you from fraud, Barclays has a daily limit on the amount you're able to pay to a third party using the bill payment method.

If you have problems making a payment because of the limit, other payment methods are available including:

  • Telephone Banking if you're a registered user and have a passcode.
  • Using your debit or credit card to make your payment.
  • Sending a cheque or using a GIRO credit via your branch - ID is required.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Making multiple payments Each payment will need to be paid individually. Because of the process used by Barclays when making a bill payment, it is not possible to make multiple payments at the same time. There's no limit on the number of payments that can be made but all payments sent will be subject to the daily payment limit.
Future-dated payments Barclays Online Banking allows you to set a payment to go up to 2 years in advance, compared to the 42 days on the Woolwich internet bank.
Adding new mandates When adding a new bill payment mandate you'll be given the choice to either search our extensive list of companies or enter the details from the back of your bill or statement.
Creating mandates prior to paying Any new bill payment mandates you wish to add to your account will be created when you’re ready to pay the bill. Unfortunately it’s not possible to set them up in advance of the payment.
Cancelling old mandates All bill payment mandates will remain active on your account for 13 months from the date they were last used. If you wish to cancel a mandate yourself, use the 'Delete Payees' function accessed from the menu of your homepage.
Duplicate payments Barclays Online Banking will not check for any duplicate payments so please take care when making a payment. If you’re in any doubt check your online statement or list of future-dated payments.
